The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled plans to transition from the traditional paper-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to a Computer-Based Testing (CBT) format.

This major change, set to take effect with the WASSCE for School Candidates in 2025, marks a significant leap towards modernising education across Nigeria and other West African countries.

To prepare for this shift, WAEC has launched a research initiative titled “Research on Readiness of Stakeholders for CB-WASSCE.”

The study aims to assess how ready principals, teachers, and students are for the upcoming Computer-Based WASSCE (CB-WASSCE).

According to a statement from Olugu J. C., Senior Deputy Registrar and Zonal Coordinator, a detailed questionnaire has been rolled out to gather feedback.

This will help WAEC ensure schools and candidates are equipped for the change.

The questionnaire, designed using Google Forms, will be shared with principals and examination officers either during briefing sessions or via WhatsApp.

WAEC has urged school leaders to ensure these forms are fully completed, stressing that the data is critical for a successful rollout.

“Absolute compliance is necessary,” Mrs. Olugu noted in the statement.

WAEC MOCK CBT 2025

As part of the preparations, WAEC has scheduled an online mock examination for students.

The practice test, slated for a date to be announced after registration closes, will allow candidates to get familiar with the CBT system.

Schools have been encouraged to motivate their students to take part, as the mock exam will provide essential insights for both WAEC and the candidates.
