Wike to Receive Honorary Degree At UNICAL 37th Convocation – Details are as follows:
The University of Calabar (UNICAL) is set to honor former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, H.E. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, with an honorary Doctorate in Political Science (D. Pol. Sc.) at its 37th convocation ceremony.
The announcement was made by Vice Chancellor Prof. Florence Banku Obi, who revealed the list of distinguished recipients during a press briefing ahead of the event.
Joining Wike among the honorees are:
- Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Godswill Akpabio (D. Educ. Mgt.)
- H.E. Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, Governor of Cross River State (D. Pol. Sc.)
- Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Bisong Obi (D. Peace & Conflict Studies)
- Hon. Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, JSC (D. Laws)
- and Prince Arthur I. Eze (D. Bus. Mgt.)
The recipients were selected for their exceptional contributions to society and their impactful service to humanity.
The convocation, which commenced on Monday, March 17, 2025, will run through Sunday, March 23, 2025.
The week-long celebration will culminate on Saturday, March 22, with the conferment of Ph.D. degrees, honorary doctorates, the investiture of Emeritus Professors, and the induction of graduates into the UNICAL Alumni Association.
A thanksgiving mass at St. Paul’s Cathedral, University of Calabar, will close the festivities on Sunday.
Prof. Obi disclosed that approximately 13,786 students will participate in the ceremony.
The graduating class includes 181 Diploma students, 11,728 First Degree graduates, 876 Master’s Degree recipients, 572 Ph.D. candidates, 249 Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) students, and seven awardees of the Postdoctoral Diploma in Education.
Among the First Degree graduates, 66 earned First Class honors, 3,143 secured Second Class Upper Division, 7,527 achieved Second Class Lower Division, 925 graduated with Third Class, and seven obtained Pass degrees.
